Our mission is ‘spreading’ Venezuelan culture and promoting cultural exchange between Venezuela and Canada. In addition, the VCAC provides and supports initiatives and programs to encourage diversity and multiculturalism.
In this regard, our associated cultural groups, “Pasos de Venezuela” and “Cantares Venezuelan Choir”, continuously renew their repertoire showing the Venezuelan Folk Traditions and Expressions in various events throughout the year. These include the Calgary GlobalFest, Fiestaval, Alberta ChoralFest, and Calgary CarolFest, among others.
Also, starting in 2011, our association presents its own Pavilion at the Calgary GlobalFest yearly, which is one of the most popular multicultural events in the city. This is where many nations show elements of their crafts, culinary traditions, and folk music. In 2012, the Venezuelan pavilion was widely visited, and featured live music and the Venezuelan “Parranda”. Similarly, our dance group “Pasos de Venezuela” offered three performances during the week of the event, in the different stages located along the festival venue.
More recently, the VCAC has launched a Cultural Program for children. This program consists of workshops on various aspects of the Venezuelan culture, such as traditional games, dance, and music. Our members’ suggestions have resulted in new topics for children in these workshops, and any collaboration in the design and organization of these activities are not only welcome, but highly appreciated.
In 2013, the VCAC is planning to host the event "Venezuelan Culture Days". It will consist of a weekend of activities showing multiple expressions of the Venezuelan culture and folklore, including literature, film, folkloric dance, and music, as well as a food and culture fair. The event will be held from Friday, October 25, through Sunday, October 27. This is the first event of this kind organized in the city of Calgary where we will show all the coloring and richness of our traditions and the quality of the Venezuelan literature and film production.
